Comics for January 2, 2009 - Oldercouple
*Update*
At the very last minute (and I mean the VERY last minute) I’ve decided that the new comic still needs some time to cook. I’m not terribly excited with some of the character designs and other aspects of the strip, and I’d like to have some time to hone these elements of the new cartoon. At this point, I can’t give you a clear ETA as to when the new strip will debut, but all news will be relayed on this website. Feel free to send me angry e-mail and leave comments on the blog. I read ‘em all even though I’ve been lax about replying to most of the comments.
And so it comes to this. A rather quiet ending to a comic that I believe is “rather quiet”. Several readers have wondered why I didn’t go out with a bang - maybe write a nice, long story-arc that takes the characters out in style. I know that it probably would’ve felt much more satisfying for you readers had I written a story that closed up all the loose ends tightly, but, in the end, I felt that I’d be doing the characters a disservice by writing a grandiose ending to a not-so-grandiose comic strip.
It was also important for me to bring the comic strip back to its roots during these final weeks. This comic was and always has been about Andy and Katie and their young, inexperienced marriage. Along the way I’ve been fortunate enough to discover a wonderful cast of characters to support our hero and heroine, but these ancillary characters needed the dynamic of the main characters in order to be funny. Murray wouldn’t have been funny if Andy didn’t take marriage so seriously, and Steve and Emaline’s tumultuous relationship wouldn’t have been so interesting if Andy and Katie didn’t have a pretty stable marriage to balance everything out. As important and well-loved as many of the tertiary characters were, I felt it made more sense to close the strip by focusing on the main characters and their day-to-day interactions. A simple ending to a simple comic.
Many of you are still wondering what has happened to Steve and Emaline. To be honest, I’m not really sure myself. I can reasonably imagine that they’re both taking things slowly and enjoying each other’s company again. Like many of you who have written me over the past few months, I hope they can iron things out and get back together longterm. They were a handsome couple!
While today marks the end of YHT the comic strip, the lives of the characters will continue to play out unobstructed by comic panels and the limited artistic and writing talents of the creator. Tomorrow, Andy will probably say something dumb and Katie will react impatiently; Steve will probably take some flowers to Emaline’s house; Murray will blame environmentalists for the outbreak of crab grass on his lawn over the past summer; Chadwick will continue to run the comic shop; and Omar still has some douchebaggery hidden up his sleeve. The characters still live and they are yours now! Please take care of them!
The past four years writing and drawing this comic strip have been some of the most awesome years of my life. I’ve learned so much about the craft and business of comics - the experience has been utterly invaluable. There are so many lessons that I’ve learned while drawing this comic that I will utilize on future projects. The YHT fingerprint will certainly be evident in my new creations.
I was going to write a list of thank-yous, but I quickly realized that the list would be quite long and boring. So I’ll sum it up quickly:
To Viper Comics - thank you!
To all the websites and podcasts who’ve linked to YHT, reviewed YHT, and interviewed me about YHT - thank you!
To all the cartoonists, comics editors, and industry peeps who’ve taken the time to talk to me at conventions and on the phone - thank you!
To all the YHT readers - you guys and gals all freakin’ rock and I appreciate every one of you more than you’ll ever know! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
In closing, I thought I’d give you a quick update on my new comic strip which is tentatively set to debut on February 2. I have the title picked out, but I’m not ready to announce it yet. The comic is about a guy and his dog. YHT was about a married couple. Basically I’m trying to continue my trend of not-very-creative comic strip concepts. So far so good. Keep checking this website for more updates on the new comic!
Thanks for reading you guys!
- Wes

So what will happen to the comics/this website?
January 1st, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Wes, Thank you for being such an inspiration to webcomics creators everywhere. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next… and it’ll all start on my birthday too! How exciting! While this is a fitting end to YHT, I can’t wait to see what comes next…
Happy New Year!
January 1st, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Thank you Wes. I think that this was the perfect ending to a wonderful strip. I’ll miss it for sure, but all good things come to an end. Thank you for entertaining us these past 4 years.
January 1st, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Epic in it’s unepicness. Just like You’ll Have That.
January 1st, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Nice. Very nice. And of course a big thank you for doing the comic in the first place. Bravo, sir, bravo!
January 1st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Thanks for a great strip. I’m sad to see it go, but it was a great ending.
~m~
January 1st, 2009 at 10:56 pm
I think that this is a marvelous ending…a reflection on their love for one another. Sure, there might’ve been more ear wax
but this is appropriate and right. Thanks, Wes!
January 1st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
I loved this strip and look forward to your new one.
January 1st, 2009 at 11:28 pm
a perfect end to the comic

Perfect. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:46 am
That was a fantastic last comic Wes! It definitely was a good way to end it. I’m looking forward to seeing your next project! When can we expect the first release of it?
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:46 am
I’ve never commented before, but I’ve been a long time reader, so I just have to echo the “thank you”. This has been a wonderful, heartwarming comic strip that I love dearly.
Sometimes a silly, sweet joke is worth much more than all of the epic hilarity imaginable ;). This comic has been a wonderful distraction for me over the years.
I think you’ve ended it perfectly.
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:09 am
Oh SAD FACE! I only discovered this strip a week ago, and finally caught up yesterday. I miss them already!
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:22 am
I agree with you, Wes - a simple ending to a simple comic. When I read today’s comic, I immediately thought it was the perfect way to end a truly amazing and entertaining comic strip. Good luck and God bless with whatever you put your hand to in the future. And let me end by congratulating you on the success of YHT, and by thanking you for providing us readers with top quality strips!
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:23 am
in the (mis-quoted) words of ABBA
“thank you for the ‘comics’…”
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:50 am
What a great ending to a comic stip that brought laughs to our everyday’s “little-issues” young couples and to the not so young, I can honestly say that so many of the “incidents” I read here were ours too, and by the end of the day staying together forever is what we all want, great job!!! I’ll be looking forward to the next adventure…
January 2nd, 2009 at 2:14 am
You don’t need to defend your ending, you crazy kid.
It’s been a pleasure, and I’m looking forward to what comes next. Ka pai, teno pai! Cheers!
January 2nd, 2009 at 2:16 am
great way to end it Wes, cant wait for man and his dog debauchery!
January 2nd, 2009 at 2:31 am
This comic has always made me smile :).
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:28 am
Can’t wait for your next project, yht was one of my favorite webcomics and I’m sad to see it end, but I think the ending was perfect. Thanks!
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:37 am
You’ll Have That was a lovely simple strip. It reminded me of Mutts and Peanuts and For Better or For Worse in all the best ways. I’m sad to see it go, but I’m looking forward to your new comic. Considering the site is labeled YHTcomic.com, I wonder if the new strip will have the letters “Y.H.T.” as its initials!
January 2nd, 2009 at 5:11 am
[...] es ahnen, dann wurde es angekündigt und nun ist es soweit. Wes Molebash hat heute seinen letzten You’ll have that Strip veröffentlicht. Die letzten Wochen gefielen mir nicht so gut, aber heute macht alles [...]

Great comic, great ending — thanks so much. Looking forward to your next project too.
January 2nd, 2009 at 5:39 am
Good ending Wes! Thank you for all your hard work on a great comic. Best wishes to you on your new adventures.
January 2nd, 2009 at 6:36 am
Thank you! Nice ending
Count me in as a reader os your next project!
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:03 am
Wes -
Thanks! You’ll Have That has been my number one must-read interweb online strips since I found it. Sorry to see it “end”…Look forward to seeing the new strip.
Thanks, again.
You rock!
Rock on!
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:28 am
Hey Wes,
I am happy to see that you took the classy way out with YHT.
As sad as I am to see it go I am happy to see you know when to leave while the getting is good.
I am looking forward to your future works and I am glad I had the chance to meet you in 08 at the SDCC.
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:29 am
Wes, this is a great strip and i’m sorry to see it move on; while it’s been around it’s given me alot of good times reading, thank you!
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:41 am
thanks scott for all the great comics you’ve done. Hope you have a great time with your other project and im looking forward to read more of your work.
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:50 am
Thank you for this comic ^^, I’ve enjoyed reading all of them
January 2nd, 2009 at 8:50 am
I am going to miss this comic! It has and probably always will be one of my favorites. I just noticed today that this was the last one (I obviously don’t pay attention) and I am bummed! I wish you the best though!
January 2nd, 2009 at 8:55 am
Thanks, Wes. We’ll miss YHT.
January 2nd, 2009 at 9:08 am
ack, need a Kleenex! *sniff* this is such a wonderful ending.
January 2nd, 2009 at 9:31 am
Thanks for writing this, Wes. I know sometimes webcomics fans act like creators owe us something, but its the reverse that’s really true. I’ll miss YHT, but I can’t wait to see what you’ve got coming up next.
January 2nd, 2009 at 9:39 am
I’ve only recently discovered “YHT” but to me it’s one of the best comic strips ever. I love its simple appeal of Andy and Katie just being in love and of Andy trying to do something to utilise his cartoonists ability. I just love it and I can’t wait to buy the comics
January 2nd, 2009 at 9:50 am
Wes, I think this is the perfect ending to YHT. I can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
January 2nd, 2009 at 9:55 am
Hey, I felt that this was actually one of the most unique comics I’ve read. I have not seen any out there about a young married couple who were serious about their relationship and commitment to each other, and you captured that in a masterful way. I am very excited to see what you have in store for the internet community February 5th or whenever it becomes.
I do wonder, is it going to be possible to purchase the entirety of the You’ll Have that Webcomics? That would be pretty awesome.
Thanks for all the time you put into the comics,
and God Bless!
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:05 am
Thank you Wes for such a great comic. I know it isn’t very manly to admit it, but the last panel of this strip made me “tear-up” a little. Guess I am a big softie.
I will miss the day-to-day adventures of Andy and Katie, but I look forward to your new strip. And I wish you all the best going forward.
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:08 am
Wes,
As others have said, that was a wonderful ending to the strip.
I’ll miss YHT, but I’m already looking forward to the new project. Best of luck!
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:51 am
Great ending Wes! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:14 am
Thanks, Wes.
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:38 am
Great comic. =)
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:41 am
Thanks, Wes
where can we by the compendium
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:41 am
Thanks for the good times. I only discovered the comic as of late, so I am sad to see it go so soon (for me at least). It was so sweet and cute and always reminded me of my relationship with my gal. Hope things go well in the future.
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Nice job all around - can’t wait to see the new strip.
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:27 pm
I wouldn’t want the strip to end any other way. Thanks for 4 great years of YHT. I look forward to what’s up next!
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Dude, i’m very sad to see this strip go, i’ll definitley buy the collected editions, as i think this is a seminal comic, and afont of inspiration for our blundering generation.
Pajama pants will always be my favorite.
Tnx man, i’ll keep my eye on what follows.
Rod.
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:38 pm
What a nice ending for your comic.
It just leaves a warm feeling around my heart
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Great finish Wes. Whatever I’ve thought about your strips, I liked a lot more than I didn’t and most of all I liked that you always did it your way. High five o/ \o
Keep us updated on RSS about the new strip, have a good break and see you in Feb!
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Don’t listen to anyone who tells you differently, Wes–this was a beautiful and completely appropriate ending to YHT. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
January 2nd, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Thank you, Wes, for all you hard work and fun entertainment. I can’t wait to see what’s next!!
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Thank you for being a part of our marriage. God bless you in the future. We look forward to saying we knew you before you were famous.
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Absolutely the right way to end the strip. It was always about Andy and Katie’s day-to-day lives, really, and those lives are going to keep going on the way they’ve been going. Using the end to reflect that was appropriate. (Besides, this way you can always revisit the characters in the future should you feel so inclined…)
Thanks for the last four years, Mr. Molebash. I look forward to the new strip.
January 2nd, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Thanks Wes, and you’re welcome Ziggy.
January 2nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
It was the perfect ending.
It even made my eyes water up a bit (not that that’s hard to do). Thanks Wes, and good luck with the new comic!
January 2nd, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Wes, what a way to go out. Thank you so much for Andy and Katie. YHT has felt all too real to me at times and I’m sorry to see it go, but glad to see it do it so on a high note. Thank your for sharing them with us, and thank you for the inspiration.
Looking forward to “Man and His Dog.” I’ll be there.
January 2nd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Thank you, I’ll miss it greatly but I am glad it was there in the first place to miss, so thank you.
Like the way the title made it into the last panel, neat ending. Goodbye for now, see you in the next comic realm.
January 2nd, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Thank you, Wes. I’m a webcomic nut and there are a lot of outrageous, often ridiculous ones out there. YHT kept it real and it was a real pleasure to read it. Thanks and good luck with your next one! I’ll be sure to frequent that one as well.
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Wow.
I actually found this comic today and I am blown away, by the comic and about not having found this before.
I read to the archives in one night, thank you, and good luck with your next masterpiece, I’ll be here.
Chapeau
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
The perfect ending for Andy and Katie…
Thank you, Wes, for such a heart-warming comic. I have read this strip since its inception and will continue to recommend it to everyone! Can’t wait for the new strip to start!
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I thought the ending was perfect
January 2nd, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Great comic! Can’t wait til 2/2/09!
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Wes, you are blessed with the kindest fans a cartoonist could ever have! I think it’s unanimously agreed that this was a fitting final note for Andy and Katie’s love song.
I know I’m not the only one at Digital Strips who is sad to see YHT end, and you can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye out for the upcoming canine/human hijinx! Let us know if you want to do a quick Q&A about the future and good luck in everything you do!
Thanks for a truly unique strip,
Jason Sigler
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Thanks for saving my relationship and thanks for all the laughs. Best of luck
January 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 am
(applause) Bravo, Sir! Nicely done! I await your next opus, while fondly remembering YHT; the great ones never truly end…
January 3rd, 2009 at 2:44 am
Hey, loved the comic and look forward to your next one. Thanks so much!
January 3rd, 2009 at 6:03 am
Thank you, Wes, for such happy times with this lovely couple.
Thank You!
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 am
Wow. There’s a ridiculous amount of comments.
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:03 am
What a perfect ending. I will miss this comic.
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:15 am
Thanks for all the kind comments. I hope you guys can find a special place in your heart for my new comic. I’m excited about it, but it’ll be a bit different than YHT.
- Wes
January 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Wes,
I’m just getting back into the swing of things after New Years. I think this was a perfect ending for You’ll Have That, and finally I understand the context of that saying. I never got it before but went with it because I always felt that you had a video camera in our home watching our life. You did an excellent thing with this comic and I am proud to call you friend and it was so great to meet you and have you in our home. I wish you all the luck in the world with your next project.
January 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
It’s a perfect ending. Thank you so much for the comic, it’s been a joy to read.
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Wes - I’m so glad I met you at MidOhio Con and was able to enjoy the end of this journey. I’m looking foward to the new strip. Best of luck and thanks for all that you do!
January 3rd, 2009 at 4:44 pm
*sniffles* very nice way to end it Wes. Looking forward to the new comic.
January 3rd, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Aw Wes, I don’t ever have the heart to close this browser! It was an incommensurable joy to follow YHT and all your work.
Oh, by the way, will the past comics remain archived? Eventually I’d like to read YHT again, even old strips.
And if you release another YHT comic books I’ll definitely buy it.
Greetings from Brazil!
January 3rd, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Hee, just read the entire strip xP
Very very very good =D
Deffinately up in my list of top webcomics =3
January 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 pm
I read the entire run of YHT in two days, yesterday and the day before. I found it through Theater Hopper by Tom Brazelton, clicking on random comic links that looked interesting, including Sordid City Blues. YHT is why I believe web-based comics are better than what’s offered in newspapers nowadays. They’re closer to the human experience, most likely closer to what creators want to portray in their comics, and not stifled by editorial control. The artists trust that they’ll attract the readers they mean to with their comics. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt despair for any comic character, which was the case with Steve and Emaline. I enjoyed the comics afterward, a little break from the intensity of that breakup, but I hoped so much that they’d get back together. And when that comic appeared, of them talking and laughing, it felt right. People just don’t get back together immediately. It takes time and understanding to repair what was broken. That’s what will be with them and it’s best that they were left the way they were.
I’m excited about your latest comic, Wes, because I’ve been a dog lover ever since I was born. I grew up with a black toy poodle named Beaumont, and now have two dogs, two mutts (one a miniature pinscher and Italian greyhound, and one a greyhound and terrier), named Tigger and Kitty. Can’t live without them and I can’t wait to see what you’ll present. I think it’s going to be of the same high quality as YHT was.
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Thanks for the kind words, Rory! I can’t wait to get started on the new strip, and I’m really anxious to see what people think of it - especially the tried and true YHT fans.
- Wes
January 4th, 2009 at 3:42 am
Wes - I love the ending. Can’t believe that this comic strip is over.
January 4th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Well done.
http://antiherocomics.com/2009/01/010109-youll-have-that-finale.html
January 4th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Much like the previous Rory, I read through the entire archive in 2 days. I found it through Scott’s link from The Dreamland Chronicles early Saturday morning and couldn’t stop reading. Congrats on a beautiful ending to a wonderfully entertaining comic and thank you very much for all your hard work.
January 4th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Hey Wes, thanks for all these years. I’ll miss YHT. Great ending, btw. Greetings from Brazil! [2]
January 4th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
It’s sorta melancholic to see YHT go, but I’m looking forward to your new comic strip.
Any chance of Katie and Andy showing up in cameos?
Greetings from Brazil! [3]
January 4th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Echoing many people before me, THANK YOU for a wonderful comic, Wes! I absolutely loved it and I think the ending is perfect. Only thing I hope is that you come out with the rest of the comics in book form, whether it’s a volume 3 or a full collection. I’m looking forward to seeing your next comic creation; seriously, you’re awesome at what you do.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
:’)
oh! i get the title now!
January 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
I was only reference to this comic through another but spending the past couple nights reading through it has shown me what this comic is.
Amazing. Simple, yes. But simply amazing. I would’ve liked the ending to have the story arc but at the same time we all can pretty much guess what will happen, or apply our experiences and continue it on our own.
Either way, I found this comic lovable in every way. I look forward to seeing the next one come February and follow along with that.
Good luck and may love be with you for many more years.
January 5th, 2009 at 2:20 am
Very sweet and appropriate ending.
And you’ve no idea how happy I am to see someone else use “douchebaggery” in a sentence! “Jackassery” is another good one more people should have in their vocabularies.
January 5th, 2009 at 2:37 am
Awesome comic, i’m sort of sad that i found it as it closes… i followed a link on another webcomic to get here. i just finished reading through 2005 and i love how well it mirrors reality. Best of luck to you on your new comic, i intend to read it.
January 5th, 2009 at 2:40 am
Wow, a subtle ending? What better way to end a comic strip with its own title.
Darn. But I’m waiting for your upcoming comic debut. Good that you’re still drawing comics. ^_^
January 5th, 2009 at 4:02 am
I stumbled on this site two days ago and read from beginning to end during my “nonwork” time. You have a wonderful talent of storytelling and the humor is felt all the way through it. It was awsome how you ended it and I am glad to have found your site. I hope to continue seeing your work soon ^.^
January 5th, 2009 at 7:09 am
Thanks for all the good stuff, Wes. I’m looking forward to reading the next step in your career.
January 5th, 2009 at 10:09 am
I’ve been reading your comic for about a year now, I’ve never posted before. I love the way you ended it, it was perfect and true to the comic. I’ll miss this comic strip but am looking forward to the next one!
January 5th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Thanks for the kinder side of marriage, Wes. Funny, reading this strip reminds me of my own marriage: I’ve seen older couples and hoped that would be me in the future. And so far, after being married for 10 years, I can honestly say “I have that.” Looking forward to your next undertaking!
January 6th, 2009 at 12:07 am
It was a fun ride (3 day ride). Came here from Dreamland Chronicles after being told you were wrapping up. Great comic, even learned a couple of things from Andy that I will try to use in my own marriage (I know, getting tips from webcomics). As I already said, fun ride, great work.
January 6th, 2009 at 7:00 am
Beaver and Steve is gone, YHT is gone… What am I going to do?
Just kidding, thanks a lot for the comic!
For sure one of my favorite webcomics ever!
January 6th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Well, there is not much to say… But thanks a lot for making YHT so enjoyable all this time
January 6th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
A perfect ending - thank you for it!
January 6th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
As sad as it is to see YHT end, the ending was perfect. Truly I believe that Andy and Katie will have 50 years of love, if only in our minds.
I sure am looking forward to the new comic though!!
January 6th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
A perfect ending to a well above average comic! Its going to be hard not anticipating a new comic after discovering and following YHT for just over 2 years now. I guess that means I’ll just have to go re-read all the of them!
I will definitely be following you along on your next comic, and I hope the best for you in every way!
Thanks, Wes!
January 6th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
There goes one of the most subtly wonderful comics I have ever had the pleasure to read. Thanks Wes, I’m going to miss this comic, but change is good, and I’m glad you’re going to have some change as well, good luck with the new comic, I’ll look out for it!
January 6th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
As simple as that was it still gave me goose bumbs.
January 6th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Thanks Wes for all the fun comics over the years. I would of never got thru working nights without entertainment like this. If the characters are truly our, then im taking them all on a cuise. There were never enough bikinis in YHT, and maybe we can recreate that Gone Wild vid

awww….so sad! I discovered this one late through my geeky fiancee and i thought it one of the best online comics i’ve been reading of late.
its a cute, simple story.
January 6th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Bravo Wes!
January 7th, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Just finished… :’( I really wish you weren’t done.
January 8th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
I found your comic a few days ago and just finished it…and I thought it was great! Living in Ohio, it made it even better to be able to identify with your characters geographically. Thanks for a wonderful comic, and I look forward to reading your new strip
January 9th, 2009 at 12:20 am
I am just speechless. i had no idea this comic was ending. i found it a couple of days ago and it only took me a few minutes to realize this was one of those comics that i would check every day. you are a inspiration for all of us and i look forward to your new work.
ps- loved the ending, didn’t end like people thought it would be, it simply beautiful. i have no other words to describe this great comic. Thank you so much.
January 9th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Wow…this is what I get for not reading newsposts. How weird that this makes me really, really sad.
January 9th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Another anonymous viewer climbing out of the woodwork. I’ve been keeping up with your comic since I discovered it last year, and I’m sad to see it go. I’m looking forward to your new comic, though!
January 9th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
[...] fare? We already know how this comic turned out, but You’ll Have That has posted it’s last, especially fitting update. Also, it looks like Casey & Scotty (and Dub) will be on an unfortunate and hopefully temporary [...]

any thoughts on a printed collection?
January 10th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Can’t wait to see the new comic plus the new shirt!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
wes, thanks for all of your hard work on this comic! i started reading after it was over - courtesy of a comment by dreamland chronicles - and it was definitely worth it. many times i called my other-half over and said “look! it’s us!!”.
if possible, i think it’d be awesome if you could keep this up, and host the new one as well (similar to what seraph-inn.com has done - just in your own way!). just a thought, but i don’t have to pay the hosting bills
thanks again!!
January 12th, 2009 at 1:41 am
Best ending since Calvin and Hobbies. No, seriously…
Thanks Wes, for one of the best “quiet” comics on the Web that made me smile every week.
January 12th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Man, it’s going to take a while to get used to this. I forgot the series ended and tuned in for my YHT fix. I really enjoyed this comic. It was simple, clean, clever, and there were a number of strips that reminded me of my wife and me. It was good while it lasted, and I’ll be looking out for your next comic.
January 12th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
… I miss you. =(
January 13th, 2009 at 11:14 am
I am sad. i just started reading this comic, and from the beginning, it is almost exact to me and my fiances life. I have yet to read it all, because the last comic is the first comic my fiance sent me, so now that I know it is gone, i am eager to get through the whole comic
January 13th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I only just twigged this finished. It was a lovely strip and I especially loved the way you managed to have the older couple looking like Andy & Katie with a few years on top.
I’ve enjoyed this series a lot and it was nice to have a strip that wasn’t all guns blazing (or the equivalent shock-horror), but gentle and sweet.
Here’s hoping the next venture lives up to the high standard!
January 13th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Wes, man I don’t know what to say. This has to be one of the best web comics I have ever seen. It’s the only one I ever pulled my girlfriend over to read. Mostly because it was something I knew she would connect with. Sad to see it end, but glad to hear you have new projects going. Can’t wait.
January 14th, 2009 at 11:16 am
This has been my favorite strip on the web. I originally found it a few years ago through “Hey Suburbia” on boxcarcomics.com
When I first found this comic I was 2 years out of a bad breakup with a woman I really truly loved. This strip was like therapy. So many of them hit so close to home that it helped me remember the good times and forget the bad. (toe nail strip was dead on.) You made me laugh and I had to share.
When you published your first two books I bought them for my best friend, who was surprisingly like Andy, and who himself had just tied the knot. Both of them love the comic, and they still occupy the coffee table.
Thank you so much for your originality and personal touch. Your books stand next to my Calvin and Hobbs, and Fox Trot collection, I can’t wait to see the new work and I’m looking forward to adding it to my catalogue off favorites.

January 17th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Great Job Wes! It was great! I sent the cute ones to my girlfriend =D I can’t wait to see the new comic!
January 21st, 2009 at 9:27 am
I don’t get it… I mean, I’m not a long-time fan or reader (kinda fell into the comic a few months ago) but this pretty much makes me feel like reading this comic (after going back to the beginning and reading all the way to the present) was a waste of time. Especially since all the “loose ends” were not taken care of. I mean, this is a really nice last comic to end with, but perhaps it could have been saved for the end of a nice albeit grandiose story arc. I wanted to see things concluded with all the characters.
January 21st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Thanks for such a great comic! I will miss it, but look forward to your next one(s).
January 23rd, 2009 at 7:15 am
Ashiyama:
“Especially since all the “loose ends” were not taken care of.”
Life has a lot of loose ends. Learn from this.
January 27th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
Thanks for the effort and talent you put in to your work here. It’s nice to know that you enjoyed it, and are continuing your thoughts in a new direction. YHT will stay in the top of my favorites for some time yet. Thanks.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Alright!!! Any new updates for Monday’s new comic? I can’t wait!
January 31st, 2009 at 6:31 am
i can’t think of a better way for you to have ended this. thanks for all your work, it’s been illuminating.
February 1st, 2009 at 9:02 pm
One day for the debut! Looking forward to it!
February 2nd, 2009 at 3:54 pm
New comic’s debut delayed?
February 2nd, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Just checking in… where is the new comic?
February 3rd, 2009 at 6:45 am
New comic will be out when he’s ready for it to go out. He had 4 years of an amazing comic. It had some story arcs, but nothing outrageous or “stupid”.
It was, for lack of a better word, a sweet comic, in an age where most will swing into some form of sensationalism. There was nothing in this comic that couldn’t happen in reality, and the underdog “won” - not in life, but in happiness. He just kept going and was happy.
The language was decent, it was about a decent couple living decent lives. No lottery, no divorce, no super heros, monsters, robots, nothing unrealistic, obscene, or unnatural.
With all that said and done… Wes called it quits, he gave 2 months notice (Which was beyond fair), he wrapped it all up the story lines as best he could or felt was necessary, and he was fair to both himself and his comic (who’s readership was fair back to him).
So when he releases his next work… Thank him. Appreciate it. Enjoy it. And stop whining because you don’t get your cookie on time.
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:43 am
I’m sure everyone here appreciates that he does what he does.
The problem with certain webcomics though is when the author announces a specific date, and then everybody is let down when they get stood up.
It’d be a bit better to just say coming soon and give a general idea of when to check back in, until a definite date is set, instead of letting all the fans down when the date they’d written on their calendar slips by without even a heads up.
That said, I KNOW for a fact that things ALWAYS take longer to finish (maybe it’s us artists) than we initially plan for. Douglas Adams said “I like the whooshing sound deadlines make as they fly by.” So, I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait, and that Wes is just trying to unveil something worth unveiling.
Keep us posted, ok?
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:39 am
Wes man! Just let us know what is happening! We are happy to wait! It’s the not knowing that is killing us!!!
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:58 am
Trev, nobody had a fit because they “didn’t get their cookie on time”. There was a question as to whether or not the comic was delayed and another asking where it is. The only one acting like a tool here is you. Get over yourself.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:56 am
No sweat, Wes. Take your time. We’ll still be here.
February 4th, 2009 at 8:16 am
Thanks for the update.
February 4th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Thanks for letting us know about the comic! Put it out there when it feels right. It’s better to have it tweaked to where you want it so you’re happy with it and your audience can tell. I’ll keep checking in!
February 4th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Take your time, man
I’ll keep checking now and then (okay… every day… I won’t deny it) but I know it’ll be all the better once it does come out since you’re making sure it’s completely ready first!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:33 am
I’ve been checking here everyday since the finale. I’ll still check in here everyday until the first new strip is up. Even though I can’t wait to see what you’ve got cooked up.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Take your time Wes, we’ll be here to pick it up whenever you’re ready. No worries! =)
Though I think you should, if you have time, start a mailing list that people can join so that you can send everyone who’s waiting to see the new comic a message letting them know it’s there. I know some people (myself included) get distracted and then forget to check. =)
February 10th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
I’m sure your new characters are gonna be great. Can’t wait for the new strip!
February 12th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
that comic was the best ever. Period.
Now i just have to read it all over again.
February 12th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
You rock Wes! I really love thsi comic. The characters, the humour and the art. Looking forward to more!
February 13th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I just wanted to say that the tiny line you put under Katie’s eye in the fourth panel is a masterstroke. Really great detail.
Can’t wait for the new strip!
February 16th, 2009 at 5:50 am
I was wondering why I wasn’t receiving anymore RSS feeds from this site, ’cause I was pretty sure you said February 2, Wes. Then I came back to the site today to discover the little update you made about your new comic being postponed!
GAH! But, I’m looking forward to the new comic! I’m really excited for it! Hope it comes soon!
February 21st, 2009 at 8:40 am
hope the new comic is coming soon - miss the YHT series
February 22nd, 2009 at 1:12 am
That’s really sweet and touching. This comic is lovely.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Hey, Wes! What’s the latest?…
March 25th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
soo… any news on the next project?
June 5th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I stumbled across this comic only a couple weeks ago. I clicked back to the beginning and have been reading many each day. As I looked at the dates, I became excited that I was getting closer and closer to current ones. After reading this one, I realized how quickly I had become attached to the characters, and how I hated to see them go. Indeed, they will live on, in my mind.
Great comic.
wow
July 29th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Wow, just went through the whole 4 years ! Just amazing work, though as glazedfaith said, a little sad to see them go. But they’ll certainly live in my mind ! I’ll certainly read any future work !
August 15th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
*sniffle* Beautiful ending man. I am sad to see the series go but excited about the new one. Amazing work and just keep doing what you do man!
October 15th, 2009 at 1:43 am
Awww man I am so sad to see this comic come to end, I do look forward to your next project. BUT I am still sad to see this comic come to an end.
November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 pm
Man. Just found your comic through SCL (I think? That was so many “clicks” ago) and have been reading through it the past couple of days. I’m sad I didn’t get to follow this while it was actively updating. This was great stuff though!
November 26th, 2009 at 1:15 am
That was an absolutely fantastic and cute read. I’m recommending this to every girl I know, and a few guys who happen to like somewhat romantic things. I congratulate you on an amazing comic. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
And the final comic? I didn’t even realize it was the final one while I read it, but it was perfect. It fit the whole thing like a glove. Genius.
